How to Claim an Existing Google Business
Do note that a Business Profile can exist without having a Google Business Profile account, but you won’t have the authority to edit the business information until you claim the business through the Google Business Profile.
1. Open Google Maps on Your Computer and Search for your Business:
- Navigate to Google Maps and enter the business name in the search bar.
2. Claim Your Business:
- Click "Claim this business," then select "Manage now."
- Alternatively, click on "Own this business?" when Googling a store
3. Choose a Different Business (if applicable):
- If you make a mistake, simply click "I own or manage another business" to go back and make another selection.
4. Verify Your Business:
- Select a verification option and follow the on-screen steps to complete the verification process. You may read more about verification processes here: Google My Business Profile: Verification Process : Momos Support Center
What to Do When Someone Else Claimed Your Business on Google
You’re attempting to claim your business profile on Google Maps or Google Search and encountered the message: “This Business Profile has already been claimed.” You’re likely thinking, “Someone else has claimed my business on Google" or you may have lost your google login details.
If you know the person based on the email, here are 2 ways to provide ownership:
Add a New Owner to a Google Business Profile
- Press on the 3 vertical dots on the right to open the Menu
- When the “Managers” section opens up, at the top you press on “Add”
- Use the email address box to add the email for the new user.
- Then under “Access”, choose “Owner" and press “Invite”
Notes:
The new owner will receive an email to accept the invitation to become an “Owner” user.
When an invitation is accepted, the current owners of the profile are notified through email.
Transfer Primary Ownership
1. Press on the 3 vertical dots on the right to open the Menu
2. Now you press on “Business Profile settings”
3. Press on “Managers”
4. When the “Managers” section opens up, find the user you intend to make the “Primary Owner”, and at the end of the row, you click on the arrow to open the user role’s dropdown menu.
7. A Pop-up box will appear to confirm the “Primary Owner” change, click on “OK”.
Notes:
Your user profile gets “demoted” to “Owner” and the new Primary owner should receive an email confirming the new role assigned.
